The Gladiators - Chatty Chatty Mouth

Album

Trenchtown Mix Up was The Gladiators' debut LP, recorded at Joe Gibbs' studio and released in 1976 on TR International/Virgin Records'.

It included re-recordings of two songs originally recorded at Studio One ("Mix Up", originally titled "Bongo Red", and their 1968 debut release "Hello Carol"), and also included cover versions of Bob Marley's "Soul Rebel" and "Rude Boy Ska". Jo-Ann Greene, writing for Allmusic, said of the album: "Everything about this set is masterful, and it remains a classic".

The Gladiators are a Jamaican roots reggae band, most popular during the 1970s.

Lyrics

"Hey mister chatty mouth!"

Chatty chatty mouth,
You want to know your culture
(Know your culture)
(x2)

Your boss is a warrior
Chatty mouth you are a traitor
You both belittle humble
Also fight against the meek.

But I and I and I
By the power of Jah-I
We shall overcome
One fine day

Chatty chatty mouth
Be wise and know your culture
(Know your culture)
(x2)

Your boss shall be lost
And you Chatty Mouth you get blow
Remember Jah say
"The humble of the meek they shall prevail"

"Hey Mister Chatty Mouth,
...
You'll get blow"

So I and I and I
By the power of Jah-I
We shall overcome
One fine day

Chatty chatty mouth
Be wise and know your culture
(Know your culture)
(x2)

You and your boss shall be lost
If you won't hear
You will get blow
You shall be weighed in the balance
And found wanting
You shall be run into Jah saying:
"It isn't I who have done so and so"
But Jah shall say
"Depart from I, I know you not"
And won't you hear me:

Chatty chatty mouth,
Be wise and know your culture...

Testo

"Ehi signore chiacchierone!"

Bocca chiacchierona loquace,
Vuoi conoscere la tua cultura
(Conosci la tua cultura)
(x2)

Il tuo capo è un guerriero
Bocca chiacchierona sei un traditore
Entrambi sminuite umili
Combatti anche contro i miti.

Ma io e io e io
Per il potere di Jah-I
Supereremo
Un bel giorno

Bocca chiacchierona loquace
Sii saggio e conosci la tua cultura
(Conosci la tua cultura)
(x2)

Il tuo capo sarà perso
E tu Bocca chiacchierona vieni soffiato
Ricorda Jah dire
"Gli umili dei miti prevarranno"

"Ehi signor chiacchierone,
...
Ti prenderai un colpo"

Quindi io e io e io
Per il potere di Jah-I
Supereremo
Un bel giorno

Bocca chiacchierona loquace
Sii saggio e conosci la tua cultura
(Conosci la tua cultura)
(x2)

Tu e il tuo capo vi perderete
Se non ascolti
Ti prenderai un colpo
Sarai pesato sulla bilancia
E trovato desiderare
Ti imbatterai in Jah che dice:
"Non sono io che ho fatto così e così"
Ma Jah dirà
"Partire da me, non ti conosco"
E non mi sentirai:

Bocca chiacchierona loquace,
Sii saggio e conosci la tua cultura...
