My Favourite Faded Fantasy is the third studio album by Irish singer, songwriter and producer Damien Rice. The album was released in Ireland on 31 October 2014 and subsequently in other territories on 3 November, almost eight years since the release of his previous album, 9. The album was produced by Rick Rubin.

Critical reception

At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from music critics, the album has received an average score of 76, indicating "generally favorable", based on 15 reviews. Jessica Goodman and Ryan Kistobak of The Huffington Post included the album on their list of 2014's best releases, declaring the album "a devastating reminder that love leaves you crumbling and fantasies are just fiction".

Goodman complimented Rice's "delicate vocals" as "sinister and familiar".

Damien Rice (born 7 December 1973) is an Irish singer-songwriter, musician and record producer. Rice began his musical career as a member of the 1990s rock group Juniper, which were signed to Polygram Records in 1997.

The band enjoyed moderate success with a couple of single releases, but a projected album floundered because of record company politics. After leaving the band he worked as a farmer in Tuscany and busked throughout Europe before returning to Ireland in 2001 and beginning a solo musical career, and the rest of the band went on to become Bell X1.

In 2002 his debut album, O, reached No. 8 on the UK Albums Chart, won the Shortlist Music Prize and generated three top-30 singles in the UK. Rice released his second album, 9, in 2006 and his songs have appeared in numerous films and television episodes.

After eight years of various collaborations, Rice released his third studio album My Favourite Faded Fantasy on 31 October 2014. Rice's personal activities include musical contributions to charitable projects such as the Songs for Tibet, Freedom Campaign and the Enough Project.

Damien Rice ha la sua prima esperienza musicale nel gruppo dei Juniper, con cui raggiunge un discreto successo con il singolo Weatherman. Tuttavia nel 1999, subito prima di incidere un album per la PolyGram, Damien abbandona il gruppo a causa delle richieste troppo esigenti della casa discografica, che vuole spingere il gruppo verso obiettivi troppo commerciali che lasciano poco spazio alle vere intenzioni del cantante.

Dopo l'uscita di Damien Rice dal gruppo, Paul Noonan lo sostituisce e i Juniper diventano i Bell X1.

Nel marzo 1999 Damien si trasferisce in Toscana, per poi girare tutta l'Europa. Torna a Dublino un anno dopo pieno di idee. Sembra trovare un nuovo approccio alla musica e decide di registrare alcune canzoni. Invia il suo demo al produttore David Arnold (lo stesso di Björk), che rimane impressionato dalla voce del cantautore irlandese e finanzia il progetto musicale di Damien, procurandogli un po' di soldi per mettere in piedi uno studio mobile tutto suo.

Nel 2002 esce in Gran Bretagna e Irlanda l'album d'esordio O, preceduto dal singolo The Blower's Daughter. Il successo è mondiale, e Damien vince lo Shortlist Music Prize nel 2003.
