Sicuramente questo disco non ha i capelli bianchi, anche se si porta dietro decenni di esperienze specchiandosi/azzimandosi nel cavallo tra i secoli, fino a scendere ai piedi di Nashville e Seattle.

Sì, ma non traete conclusioni affrettate, perché quando toglierete i petali vi accorgerete di essere rimasti in mano comunque con un "m'ama", ricambiando di passione.

L'unica pretesa di cotanti contenuti è quella di rinvigorire la forza del sound americano in terra d'Albione, viste le origini segnate in quel di Cambridge, storico habitat di musica borghese.

Non sembra di ascoltare roba di un tempo che è, ma forse di un momento che starebbe per "nascere" o "resuscitare", e non fa troppa differenza.

Poche pretese dunque, ma buone; senza invadenza alcuna, le canzoni scorrono con fin troppa facilità una volta inserito il disco nel lettore e sembra quasi un invito a sedersi, "resettarsi", magari sorseggiando un bourbon.

Si parte con il rock adolescenziale di "You're Like A Woman", un avvio rapido, utile solo per gli scambi di piacere tra l'ascoltatore e la band. Ben altra cosa l'intimità racchiusa in "It's All Over", la "ballata" del disco, classica melodia nostalgica con tanto di coda vagamente noise e richiami ai primi Eels.

The Broken Family Band was a British rock band from Cambridge and London.

The band was formed in Cambridge, England by Steven Adams, Jay Williams, Micky Roman and Gavin Johnson in 2001, following the break-up of Adams and Williams’ indie rock band Hofman. Their musical style has variously been referred to as alt country, country rock, new wave, and indie-rock (the latter term being favoured by the band).

Career

Originally formed "for fun" and to play irregular shows at their local pub and record one album, the band were encouraged by friends to perform support slots in London.

After appearing on a bill with The Walkmen, they were signed to indie label Snowstorm, for which they recorded one mini album ‘The King Will Build A Disco’ and their first full-length album ‘Cold Water Songs’, both of which featured guest appearances from Samantha Parton from The Be Good Tanyas, Martin Green from Lau, Inge Thomson from Harem Scarem and Owen Turner from Magoo.

Both records received an excellent critical response, as well bringing the group to the attention of John Peel, who had them record two sessions.
