Queens Of The Stone Age – My God Is The Sun

"My God Is the Sun" is the first single by Queens of the Stone Age from their sixth studio album, ...Like Clockwork (2013).

The band debuted the song at Lollapalooza Brazil on March 30, 2013. The studio version of the single debuted on BBC Radio 1 on April 8, 2013, and became available for download with preorders of the album.

In December 2013, the song was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category Best Rock Performance.

Although the song did not win, it was played as the closer for the show. However, their performance (which was in collaboration with Dave Grohl, Lindsey Buckingham, and Nine Inch Nails) was cut short, and the credits and advertisements ran over top the performance. This has created an uproar from the performers, particularly Trent Reznor, criticizing the event for cheating them.

Il leader del gruppo Josh Homme ha descritto il disco come «un commentario audio ad un anno da matti» («an audio commentary of a manic year»).

I Queens of the Stone Age (o anche QOTSA) sono una band alternative rock statunitense, nata nel 1996 in seguito allo scioglimento dei Kyuss, band cardine e vero fulcro attorno a cui è nato e si è sviluppato il cosiddetto stoner rock.

I Queens of the Stone Age erano stati originariamente formati con il nome "Gamma Ray" dal chitarrista Josh Homme, assieme al batterista Alfredo Hernandez. Lo stesso Homme ha descritto lo stile della band come robot rock, nome che vuole dare l'idea della continua ripetizione di riff che lo caratterizzano.

Dopo lo scioglimento dei Kyuss, nel 1995 Josh Homme si trasferì a Seattle e si unì agli Screaming Trees durante il loro tour. In questa città e grazie alle sue amicizie, Homme iniziò a sviluppare collaborazioni con vari musicisti di quella scena, come lo stesso bassista degli Screaming Trees Van Conner, il batterista dei Soundgarden Matt Cameron ed il bassista dei Dinosaur Jr. Mike Johnson.

Iniziò quindi a registrare una serie di 7", originariamente con il nome Gamma Ray.

Nel 1997 Homme cambiò il nome con l'attuale dato che l'omonima band tedesca minacciava di fargli causa. Come dissero sia Homme che l'ex bassista Nick Oliveri, il nome Queens of the Stone Age, in italiano Regine dell'Età della Pietra, nacque durante una sessione di registrazione con i Kyuss nel 1992, quando il produttore Chris Goss scherzando disse loro: ragazzi, voi siete come le regine dell'età della pietra.
