"The Dolphin's Cry" is a song by American alternative rock band Live. It was released in August 1999 as the lead single from their fourth studio album The Distance to Here. The song was co-produced by Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads.

Music video

The video, directed by Martin Weisz, features the band playing in an alley as successively larger waves of water flow towards them. The other people in the alley grow more panicked as the waves get larger.

Towards the end of the song, the largest wave sweeps through the alley and knocks the band down, but they get back up and resume playing.

The Distance to Here is the fourth studio album by the band Live, released in 1999. It debuted at #4 on the Billboard 200, selling 138,000 copies in its first week and was certified Platinum by the RIAA on November 19, 1999.

Live achieved worldwide success with their 1994 album Throwing Copper, which sold eight million copies in the U.S.

The band had a string of hit singles in the mid-1990s including "Lightning Crashes", which stayed at the top of the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart for 10 consecutive weeks and the Modern Rock Tracks (now Alternative Songs) chart for nine weeks from February 25 to April 22, 1995.
