Song
"A Satisfied Mind" is a song written by Joe "Red" Hayes and Jack Rhodes. Hayes explained the origin of the song in an interview:
"The song came from my mother. Everything in the song are things I heard her say over the years. I put a lot of thought into the song before I came up with the title. One day my father-in-law asked me who I thought the richest man in the world was, and I mentioned some names. He said, 'You're wrong; it is the man with a satisfied mind.'"
The song has been covered by a variety of well-known artists.
- Jeff Buckley on his 1998 posthumous album Sketches (for My Sweetheart the Drunk) The recording was made for a 1992 Radio Session, and had been played at Jeff Buckley's funeral in 1997, which Buckley's mother Mary Guibert mentions as the reason it was included on the collection.
Album
Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk is the only posthumous album of polished studio tracks and demos recorded by American singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley. Buckley was dissatisfied by the material recorded during the first block session, produced by Television frontman Tom Verlaine in the summer of 1996 and early in 1997.
He then continued working on demo recordings to refine his sound. The album was to be titled My Sweetheart, the Drunk, but was never finished, as the rest of the band were traveling to meet Buckley at the time of his death. It was released posthumously on May 26, 1998. Despite its unfinished state, the album garnered many positive reviews.
Musically, biographers and critics pointed that he "was reaching fruitfully in multiple directions".
Music and background
Biographers Dave Lory and Jim Irvin wrote that Buckley was inspired by the music of some of his favourite artists. "His Siouxsie and the Banshees influence is most obvious on songs like "Nightmares by the Sea" and "Witches Rave"".
Los Angeles Times cited as references "John Lennon’s early solo work" and "inner depth" of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Reviewer Steve Hochman compared the track "Everybody Here Wants You" to a "70s-ish soul experiment worthy of Marvin Gaye or Al Green" while "New Year's Prayer" was linked to Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir".
"My Sweetheart the Drunk" was the working title that Buckley used while writing and recording the album. The title was intended by his mother and sole heir of his estate, Mary Guibert, to be rendered with parentheses, as Sketches for (My Sweetheart the Drunk). This was because Jeff's work was not finished, and therefore was just an outline, or "sketch", of what would have been released.

- Il tema predominante dell'album è l'amore. Le tracce dei due album sono infatti quasi tutte incentrate su questo tema, così caro a Buckley e da lui trattato in maniera sempre anticonvenzionale.

Figlio del cantautore Tim Buckley, Jeff in vita riscosse grande successo principalmente in Francia e in Australia e poi, dopo il suo decesso avvenuto per annegamento il 29 maggio 1997, in tutto il mondo, tanto che i suoi lavori sono rimasti famosi nel tempo e appaiono regolarmente nelle classifiche delle riviste di settore.

La sera del 29 maggio 1997 all'età di trent'anni, mentre, a bordo di un furgone guidato dal suo roadie Keith Foti, si stava dirigendo presso gli studi di registrazione, passando lungo le rive del Wolf River, un affluente del Mississippi, chiese all'autista di fermarsi, avendo voglia di fare un bagno.
Già in precedenza aveva nuotato in quelle acque, quindi si immerse nel fiume tenendo, però, addosso i vestiti e gli stivali, arrivando fino ai piloni del ponte dell'autostrada (canticchiando il ritornello di Whole Lotta Love dei Led Zeppelin), nello stesso momento in cui stava transitando un battello che probabilmente creò un gorgo che lo risucchiò.
Il cantante scomparve dalla vista di Keith Foti, che chiamò la polizia che, pur avendo ordinato un dragaggio della zona, non trovò nulla.
Il corpo fu trovato solo il mattino del 4 giugno, avvistato da un passeggero del traghetto American Queen, impigliato tra i rami di un albero sotto il ponte di Beale Street, la via più importante di Memphis. Gene Bowen (tour manager di Buckley) riconobbe il corpo da un piercing all'ombelico e dalla maglietta indossata.
L'autopsia
L'autopsia non rilevò tracce di alcol etilico o di droghe; il caso venne archiviato come incidente. Un comunicato ufficiale dalla madre, diceva:

Il funerale si celebrò il 1º agosto 1997, nella chiesa di Saint Ann a Brooklyn, nello stesso luogo dove era iniziata la sua carriera durante il Tim Buckley Tribute.
