In Between Dreams is the third studio album by singer-songwriter Jack Johnson, released by Brushfire Records in the United States on March 1, 2005 (see 2005 in music). The album received generally mixed reviews from music critics. However, the album achieved considerable commercial success.

In Between Dreams has sold over 15 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums of the 21st century.

Jack Hody Johnson (born May 18, 1975) is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, actor, record producer, documentary filmmaker and former professional surfer. Johnson is known primarily for his work in the soft rock and acoustic genres.

In 2001, he achieved commercial success after the release of his debut album, Brushfire Fairytales. Johnson has reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart with his albums Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies for the Film Curious George in 2006, Sleep Through the Static in 2008, To the Sea in 2010 and From Here to Now to You in 2013. His album In Between Dreams peaked at number two on the chart in 2005 and again in 2013.

Johnson is active in environmentalism and sustainability, often with a focus on the world's oceans. Johnson and wife Kim created the Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation and the Kōkua Hawaii Foundation. In 2008, Johnson adopted the concept of greening (reduce and reuse), and donated 100% of the proceeds of the Sleep Through the Static tour to the Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation.

Similarly, the proceeds from the 2010 To the Sea album tour went to All At Once, a Johnson backed collaboration of greening charities promoting fan involvement.

Biografia

Jack Hody Johnson nasce nel 1975 vicino Haleiwa nella costa nord di Oahu (Hawaii). Figlio del famoso surfista locale Jeff Johnson apprende dal padre fin da giovanissimo la passione per il surf. Passione che lo porta a 17 anni a partecipare al Billabong Pipeline Masters raggiungendo le finali e ottenendo il record di più giovane partecipante a questo evento di prestigio mondiale.

Ottiene un contratto da professionista con la Quiksilver ancor prima di finire il liceo. Ma poco dopo Jack, durante il Pipeline Masters, deve fare i conti con un incidente quasi mortale andando a sbattere contro i coralli sul tagliente reef di pipeline. Decide così di abbandonare le competizioni ma non il mondo del surf di cui si sente parte integrante.

Si trasferisce così in California dove si laurea in cinematografia all'università di Santa Barbara.
