Elbow – One Day Like This

Song

"One Day Like This" is the second single from Elbow's fourth studio album The Seldom Seen Kid, released on 2 June 2008 on two 7" vinyl records and one CD single.

On 21 May 2009, the song won the Ivor Novello award for Best Song. In October 2011, NME placed it at number 41 on its list of "150 Best Tracks of the Past 15 Years". After the 2012 Summer Olympics Closing Ceremony, the single peaked at #4 in the UK - a new high for the song and for the band.

The chorus line lyric "one day like this a year would see me right" had been in singer Guy Garvey's diary for several years before the song was written. Speaking in 2014 about the song Garvey said,

"We put the chords behind it and realised it was going to be the hook of all hooks. I was like, 'what do we think?'... It was, 'it's kind of similar to "Hey Jude", isn't it?' I was like, 'yeah, and it's also similar to "Loaded" by Primal Scream, and we like both those songs, don't we?'

So isn't it just generous to do that, isn't it a satisfying thing for the listener?... And my God, how it changed our fortunes."

Album

The Seldom Seen Kid è il quarto album del gruppo inglese Elbow, uscito nella primavera 2008.

L'album, accolto positivamente dalla critica, ha portato il gruppo a vincere il prestigioso Mercury Prize 2008. Registrato ai Blueprint Studios di Manchester, è il primo album del gruppo a essere interamente auto-prodotto, registrato e mixato senza aiuto esterno. Ne sono stati tratti i singoli Grounds For Divorce, One Day Like This e The Bones Of You.

Il 17 gennaio 2009 il gruppo ha eseguito l'intero album nei celebri Abbey Road Studios di Londra assieme all'Orchestra della BBC, performance destinata a divenire un cofanetto composto da CD e DVD in vendita a partire dal 30 marzo 2009.

Elbow are an English rock band formed in Bury in 1997. The band consists of Guy Garvey (lead vocals, guitar), Craig Potter (keyboard, piano, backing vocals), Mark Potter (guitar, backing vocals) and Pete Turner (bass guitar, backing vocals).

They have played together since 1990, adopting the name Elbow in 1997.

The band have released seven studio albums, Asleep in the Back (2001), Cast of Thousands (2003), Leaders of the Free World (2005), The Seldom Seen Kid(2008), Build a Rocket Boys! (2011), The Take Off and Landing of Everything (2014), and Little Fictions (2017).

Their studio albums, as well as their B-sides compilation Dead in the Boot (2012), all reached the top 15 of the British album chart. Seven of their singles placed in the top 40 of the British singles chart. Their most recent album, Little Fictions, was released on 3 February 2017.

In 2008, Elbow won the Mercury Music Prize for their album The Seldom Seen Kid, and in 2009 they won the Brit Award for Best British Group.
